Volunteers needed to build Eagle-Vail trail

EAGLE-VAIL, Colorado – The crew building a 2-mile trail through Eagle-Vail needs volunteers. The Eagle-Vail Trail Committee seeks community members on Saturday to help with digging, scraping and raking for the path, said Paul Hields, chairman of the Eagle-Vail Trail Committee.

If you can’t make it on Saturday, the committee needs volunteers on weekdays beginning Monday, he said.

When finished, the Eagle-Vail trail will begin at the end of the Stone Creek trail (also known as Paulie’s Plunge), by the 17th tee bridge on the Eagle-Vail golf course, Hields said. It ends at the 10th tee, by Grouse Court and the Shop n’ Hop, he said. The trail is designed for walking, biking and running.

“It’s going to be a great neighborhood amenity,” Hields said. “Eagle-Vail has a couple of trails but nothing that actually traverses the neighborhood.”

The Eagle-Vail Metropolitan District, Eagle-Vail Property Owners’ Association and Eagle County provided $50,000 for the trail, he said. They contracted with the U.S. Forest Service to build the trail, Hields said.

So far, the forest service has cut a wide swath from one end of the trail to the other and staked it, he said. Hields expects the trail to be finished by Oct. 31.
