Big events require a lot of volunteers and local organizers are looking for just such people to help out at the highly anticipated WestFest, which rolls into Rifle Aug. 13-15.
“We need a lot of volunteers. It’s not just a little bit,” said volunteer coordinator Nita Smith, of Wagon Wheel Consulting in Rifle.
Michael Martin Murphey is bringing WestFest to Rifle the second weekend in August, attracting many out-of-towners for the three-day festival. But with bringing a festival of this size to town, there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
Smith is looking for about 200 volunteers to help with everything from stage set up to collecting and selling tickets at the gates.
Help is also needed for vendor relief, where volunteers will assist vendors or allow them to take a break during the day, communication issues, crowd control and security.
Security and ticket collection volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, Smith said, and they will have to complete a background check before they will be approved.
Volunteers will work varied hours, Smith said, from four to six hours a day, but will receive a free one-day ticket for any day they would like to attend the show.
Volunteer applications can be picked up and dropped off at Wagon Wheel Consulting, located at 111 East Third Street, Suit 221 in the Midland Building, or at the Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Rifle, 4199 West Centennial Parkway. Applications can also be downloaded on the web at http://www.riflechamber.com, under the calendar of events for August, and dropped off at one of the aforementioned locations.
As of July 15, that they’ve received approximately 40 applications for interested volunteers, Smith said. However, she added that the next organization meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 26, and they are trying to get as many volunteers as possible signed up by that day.
“We need them now,” Smith said. “We need them way before [Monday]. We are going to do a real push in the next couple of weeks.”
WestFest tickets can be purchased at Western Slope Trailer Sales located at 3150 Airport Road in Rifle, Western Rockies Federal Credit Union located at 142 West 3rd St. in Rifle or at all of the Western Rockies Federal Credit Unions in Grand Junction, and at Murdoch’s in Clifton. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 1-800-595-4849, or online at http://www.westfest.us.
