Vote yes on 2A

Dear Editor,

As I look outside on this gorgeous September day, I feel fortunate to live in Glenwood Springs. I’ve lived here for 20 years and have seen many wonderful improvements in our community.

However, we are now facing some of the biggest transportation challenges our town has ever seen. Not only is traffic problematic, but street maintenance and improvements are needed, and measures need to be taken to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.

The citizens of our town have an opportunity to be proactive to improve our transportation infrastructure by voting us on Ballot Issue 2A on the November ballot. The sales tax of .5 cent would cost each of us 5 cents on a $10 purchase, and two thirds of the total sales tax would be paid by non-residents.

What do you have to lose? If 2A does not pass, we will be without a street fund for the first time in years. Perhaps recreation and other services would need to be cut dramatically to pay for street maintenance.

If you are a registered voter in the municipality of Glenwood Springs, I urge you to vote yes on 2A. This is a first step to help pay for transportation infrastructure improvements, be proactive in our community and guarantee that our quality of life is still great 20 years from now.
