Walter Kenneth Mateer

Walter Kenneth Mateer died Jan. 4, 2005, in Grand Junction. He was born to Walter and Helen (O’Brien) Mateer on Oct. 20, 1922, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He married Mary Bergstrand on Jan. 28, 1950, in Sun Valley, Calif.Survivors include son Kenneth Mateer (Michelle) of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; daughters Barbara Tanaka (Glenn) of Glenwood Springs; and Pat Pappin of Mousehole, England; brother Bill Mateer of Alexandria, Minn.; and eight grandchildren; Jaime and Katie Mateer of Bakersfield, CA; Wendi and Ricky Tanaka of Glenwood Springs; Philip Tanaka of Nirayama, Japan; and Sarah, Mary and Barry Pappin of Mousehole, England.A Rosary will be at 7:30 a.m. today at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Glenwood Springs, and funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Jan. 12 at St. Stephen’s.Farnum Holt Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Friends who wish may contribute monetary funds or flowers for the service at Flower Mart.
