War protesters should move to Iraq

Patti Coryell

Dear Editor,

A word or two for the war protesters. Why do you or I have the right to air our opinions? Because America has fought wars to protect that right. Do you condemn President Lincoln for the civil war because he wanted to abolish slavery and half of the country disagreed? We have fought many wars in which we were not personally attacked, but held an interest in the outcome. Thank God. (Yes, I said “God”; is that OK?)

Those of you who protest and condemn our administration do so out of political bias or selfish wishes that your current way of life is not altered. You like your good-paying jobs, cozy homes, boats, ATVs, etc. Well, there are parts of the world that don’t have that luxury. In Iraq, you would have your tongues cut out for slamming the leader. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. What makes you think you know more about the conditions in Iraq and the dangers we face than our intelligence services?

Everyone has an opinion about any war, but I hardly think anyone is “pro” war, let alone the president of the United States. I am not “pro” war, but I will support and follow my country’s leadership no matter what the possible dangers may be. I am proud to have a military that will fight to protect me. Those wearing a uniform and fighting for “you” will have enough guts and pride to protect your way of life. My advice to those of you who do not support this country is to pack your belongings and move to Iraq.
