We don’t have to develop all resources

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my disgust with Mr. Grant Melvin’s letter to the editor.

While Mr. Sundin may or may not have facts to back up his arguments, his desire to protect the assets of the Western Slope of Colorado is admirable.

I do not believe that, as you say, our natural gas resources are prolific. I believe that our natural gas resources are limited and that our children and our children’s children will not be using natural gas because there won’t be any!

I don’t suppose that Mr. Sundin would have us import all of the energy we need from the Middle East. I do suppose that Mr. Sundin believes what I do, which is that we should be spending our money now on developing alternative forms of energy that are limitless and/or have a minor impact on our environment. In addition to developing alternative forms of energy, our government and state should be encouraging the use of these forms of energy that are already available, by offering rebates and tax cuts to individuals who are using them.

Why is it that just because we have a limited resource we must develop it and use it up?
