We must fix our food supply fast

Dear Editor,

The food Americans are eating is directly contributing to the leading causes of death: heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and to degenerative chronic diseases like arthritis, asthma, possibly Alzheimer’s. Our food supply is ridden with chemicals, additives, and an overabundance of fat, protein and animal products.

And now we have the Post Independent reporting on a new eating disorder on people who eat healthy. Well, we have a name for the disease that the author of this book has. It’s called DENIAL.

Admittedly, any good thing can go too far, as the macrobiotic woman with breast cancer who cut her carrots into an irregular shape with the hopes it would stimulate her immune system, or the author’s own plight with eating disorder. But there can be no denial that we need to fix our food supply fast as there is already an epidemic of food and eating disease.

Obesity affects 60 percent of adults. The Natural Law Party platform includes not only sustainable agriculture and a shift away from chemicals to organic farming but also mandatory labeling and safety testing of genetically engineered foods, a preventative health care system, and the use of renewable, safe, nonpolluting energy sources. I am running for state representative in District 61 on the NLP ticket. Please support me. 963-8932.
