We need a gas liaison like a pickle needs another bump

Dear Editor,

With due respect and accolades to you and your staff for the improvements you have made and are planning for GSPI, a gas industry liaison, as recommended in an editorial (11/20), is not a good idea. It is like saying a pickle needs another bump.

In place, monitoring the gas and oil industry, are the feds (EPA, OSHA, BLM, Forest Service, etc.), state (DOW, Air Quality Control, etc.) and local alliances (Grand Valley Citizens Alliance and land owners groups). One wonders what duties are thrust on Mr. Bean that are not being covered by other agencies and groups. An editorial specifying the duties and services an LGD would provide, not now covered, could convince doubters.

Just a suggestion, but the major problem expressed in this part of Garfield County centers on dogs and cats running loose. At every public meeting in the Parachute/Battlement Mesa area, dogs roaming and chasing wildlife and cattle, harassing joggers and walkers and fouling yards and walks are expressed as the major problem. The money for an LGD could be better applied toward a county animal control officer and equipment.

Anti Duplication of Oversight Guy,

Jack E. Blankenship
