Weather, accidents shut down Vail Pass

VAIL – The Colorado Department of Transportation closed Vail Pass after mile marker 180 on Interstate 70 on Friday afternoon to move away about four accidents caused by the snow and ice, said Verlaine Harris, a Colorado State Patrol dispatcher.”The trooper said it’s a mess,” Harris said. “When they close the road, it’s really bad.”Harris said there were unknown damages and injuries. Troopers were on the scene to ensure other trucks chained up before driving up the pass. As of 4:30 p.m., department of transportation spokeswoman Stacey Stegman said the interstate would be reopened shortly. For more information, call 479-2226.
