There will be an opportunity to meet Republican candidates at Harvey Gap State Park on Saturday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Republicans invite all Conservatives to celebrate Flag Day and meet the candidates, Rep Steve King, Colonel Bob McConnell, Scott Tipton, Thomas Jankovsky, Lou Vallario and others. Bring your lunch, meet the candidates, listen to John Sommers and The Defiance Stringband, and enjoy the day!

There will be a fashion show on Saturday, June 12, hosted by Arcella’s Retreat, Luxe Boutique, and Sugar Sweet Clothing. The show will be at 3:30 p.m. at the fountain by Pier 1 in the Glenwood Meadows.

“The Gathering: a day for the business of writing,” a writers’ retreat to gather up work, plan books, and learn revision, submission and resources for publication, will be held 9-5 Saturday, June 12, with a stellar breakfast and lunch in beautiful setting in Glenwood Springs. $100 ($90 early bird signup). For over 30 years, Mountain Valley Developmental Services has served children and adults with developmental disabilities and delays throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. From speech therapy for a 2-year-old, to comprehensive home care for an adult with severe disabilities, Mountain Valley offers the highest quality care to all clients.

On Saturday, June 12, Mountain Valley is kicking off the Beautiful Brain Fundraising Campaign, a campaign to raise awareness and funds for Mountain Valley. A spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held at Mountain Valley’s newest program site at 580 Home Ave in the old Silt Community Church building. Kelly and Melissa Gabossi will provide musical entertainment and products and wares from the clients’ greenhouse and textiles shop will be available for purchase. Dinner will be served at 5 and 7 p.m. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended: $10 for Adults and $4 for Children under 12.

There will be an Argentine Tango event Saturday, June 12 at The Eagle’s Lodge in downtown Glenwood Springs.

There will be dance instructors and a Russian native playing classic guitar. Music will be from 9:30-10:30 p.m. with tango dancing from 8:30 p.m. till midnight.

Tango lessons are held every Tuesday at The Eagle’s at 7 p.m.

Catch the sewing spirit! Sign up now for beginning sewing classes, some for kids, some for adults! “Kids Can Sew” begins June 21-24 and July 12-15. “Kids Keep Sewing” has three sessions: June 21-24, July 12-15 and Thursdays, July 22 through Aug. 5. “Kids Can Quilt” takes place July 26-29. Adult beginning classes include “Modern Girls Love Retro Aprons” on June 13 and “Quilting for Beginners From Beginning to End” on Wednesday afternoons, starting June 23. The Wilderness Workshop will host its seventh annual Wilderness Picnic at East Maroon Portal on Sunday, June 13, from noon to 3 p.m.

The picnic is a “semi-potluck,” meaning that WW provides the grill food and soft drinks, and guests are encouraged to bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share.

The Last Minute String Band will provide live music and line dancing, and games and activities will be organized for kids.

Admission is free for Wilderness Workshop members, and for kids 12 and under. It’s $10 for nonmembers, but free for anyone who joins WW at the event.

East Maroon Portal is located off of Maroon Creek Road, about 3 miles beyond the T Lazy 7 Ranch. Parking is available at the site, although everyone is encouraged to carpool or bike.
