Burning Mountains Fire Protection District’s volunteer firefighters will be hosting the annual Pig Roast Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. at Veterans Park in Silt. There will also be a silent auction. Burning Mountains Firefighter’s Association will be raising money for the Burning Mountains Firefighter’s Association, Emergency Family Fund, and Scholarship Fund, all of which benefit the community. Tickets prices will be $6 for advanced sales, $7 at the door, and 5 and under free. Please call 876-5738 with questions.

In this tough economy more families than ever are in need of our community’s generosity. Please help the New Castle River Center’s Back to School Children’s Clothing and School Supply Drive on Aug. 21. Call 379-4429 or 987-3710 for a list of needed items. Doors will open Aug. 21 at the River Center between 9 a.m. and Noon for distribution.

Join Colorado Animal Rescue for two Fabulous Feline Adoptathons this weekend. Saturday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. we will be at Petco in Glenwood Springs, and Sunday, Aug. 22, from noon to 4 p.m. we will be at RJ Paddywacks in El Jebel. Undergoing a full exterior restoration, guided tours of the Historic Redstone Castle will continue into the summer, Saturday’s and Sunday’s at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Tiffany of Redstone, Crystal Club Cafe and Redstone General Store. $15 for adults and $10 for seniors / children over 5 years, free under 5 years.
