Westbank players: Put your cards on the table

Suzy Duroux

Dear Editor,

I for one would be happy to share my community with other avid hikers/cyclists if Garfield County would once and for all shut down the Prehm Ranch road.

For expressing this opinion however, I have been accosted by the Westbank Board of Directors in a most inappropriate manner. I was telephoned by Mr. Warren Wright and told that Westbank was a nice place until we “problem children” showed up (myself and others who share this same opinion).

Mr. Wright insinuated that there was something “big” we didn’t know, and that three months into this lawsuit they knew that the county wasn’t going to back us against the road and Prehm Ranch – hence the settlement agreement. I asked Warren what it was we didn’t know. He said he couldn’t tell me.

This makes me curious. I would like to support a hiking trail to connect Glenwood to Carbondale. Many other Westbank residents feel the same way – but we are being strong-armed by very manipulative sources. I believe we need to get all the cards on the table.

The big scare out here is that the county and city will stick us with a public thoroughfare if we don’t make this settlement agreement. Would those who have an interest please put your cards out on the table and respond publicly for the benefit of all Westbank residents?
