Westbank shooting suspect captured

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado – A shooting suspect who was barricaded in a Westbank home for three hours Monday afternoon is now in custody, according to Garfield County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis.

Trained crisis negotiators arrived at the Westbank subdivision at 6 p.m. Monday to deal with the suspect. They were called in after a deputy attempted to check on a man at 4:10 p.m. and was met with gunfire.

The officer was not injured, and the man remained in the home.

Law enforcement from as far as Rifle and Silt arrived at the scene to assist sheriff’s deputies.

Residents of the subdivision were barred from entering the area earlier, but are now being allowed into the neighborhood.
