Whitsitt disillusioned with her time with college

Jacque Whitsitt doesn’t plan to seek a second term as a Colorado Mountain College trustee, and cites some disillusionment with her time on the board as a factor.”There are some things you do, you feel like you’re making a difference and are on the same page as people, and this is not one of those,” Whitsitt said.”I didn’t feel as if I achieved as much as working with other boards, and so I’m going to put my energy where I feel like I can get something done.”Whitsitt, of Basalt, has served on other boards, including Basalt Town Council and the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority. While reluctant to discuss her concerns at length, she said she believes boards should be policy driven, with staff implementing the policy. She said when that isn’t case, it isn’t the fault of staff. She said she found it hard as a board member “to try to change existing culture.””Maybe nobody else thinks there needs to be change,” she said.Fellow CMC board member John Pattillo, of Glenwood Springs, appears happy with the status quo.”I would just say that I’m comfortable with my time on the board,” he said. “I don’t have any immediate objections, small or major, that come to mind. … I am happy with the way it’s being run right now.”- By Dennis Webb
