William Le Roy Gorrell

William Le Roy Gorrell of Parachute died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home. He was 78.

He was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Atchison, Kan., to Dorothy Kirkley and Harry Gorrell. He grew up in Kansas.

Mr. Gorrell served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Norine Berger on July 27, 1944, at Atchison, Kan.

They lived in Denver before moving to the Rifle and Parachute area 20 years ago.

Mr. Gorrell was a production foreman for Shell Oil Co.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by brothers Clyde and Tom Gorrell.

Mr. Gorrell is survived by his wife, Norine Gorrell of Parachute; by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kathy Gorrell of Henderson, Nev.; by daughters and son-in-law Sandra and Harvey Johnson of Denver, and Annette Grissett of Denver; by a sister, Margaret West of Rifle; and by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle, with Hospice Chaplain Merle Means officiating.

Rifle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
