Wing street mall `forced’ on Glenwood

Dear Editor,

Wasn’t the acronym for the west side wing street on Grand Avenue at the bridge FORCE? That’s what it was, forced down the throat of Glenwood by some ambitious high schoolers who now, no doubt, live in other towns. We are stuck with a dirt-collecting boondoggle of a corner, which one cannot even roller-skate on because it’s brick.

When I go to old Glenwood, I kind of like to park as close to a business as possible. We already lost all the parking places on the one side. As David Stover said, the slush, etc., pouring down off Highway 82 above is a nuisance. All you will do is improve the hang-out area for vagrants, making it less appealing for tourists.

Having had a business in downtown Glenwood in the ’70s, I know that every little blip in the construction of corners and repairs hurts your business. Why don’t you wait until there is an actual Glenwood bypass? Then make it all green belt if you like.

Until then, how about undoing the FORCEd side as well, and making it all function as a street? What a concept!

Thanks for listening.
