Wisch reverses position, supports COPs

Dear Editor,

This letter is in reference to the possibility of a new 18-hole public golf course in Glenwood Springs.

Recently I signed a petition to have a public vote on Certificates of Participation (COPs) for the new city golf course. I signed it, for I felt the city of Glenwood Springs had done a poor job of explaining the financing system to the general public. I for one had no idea of what the financing plan was or exactly what it was funding.

I feel there is a great need for the public golf course and until Mary Steinbrecher’s “My Side” on July 23, I had no clue at what was really going to happen. Since Mary’s “My Side,” I have withdrawn my support for a citywide vote on the golf course issue.

This community needs a public 18-hole golf course, and public is key! Any other recreational amenities it can get with this funding plan will be a bonus.

Recreation is good for us and the tourism it creates is another bonus. This golf course and other amenities created will only enhance our town and make us a better tourist destination, which is our main industry. I think our City Council is on the right track, and a vote on COPs is not needed.

Sincerely,

Jeff Wisch
