Woman arrested in connection with trooper shooting

Cori Elizabeth Graham, 27, of DeBeque, has been arrested in connection with the shooting and wounding of Colorado State Patrol Trooper Brain Koch Tuesday night hear Silt.

According to a report from the Colorado State Patrol, at 6:53 p.m. Wednesday, police conducting a check point at Garfield County Roads 331 and 311 (Dry Hollow Road and Divide Creek Road) were approached by a Ford pickup driven by Graham. When officers asked her for identification, she got out of the truck and ran off. At the same time officers heard the sound of a gunshot from inside the truck.

Officers immediately searched it and found a white male under a blanket in the back seat with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was later identified as Steven J. Appl, who was suspected of shooting Koch.

Graham was charged with accessory to a crime and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies, and obstructing a police officer, a misdemeanor. She was arrested, posted a bond of $8,250 and was released.
