Woman looking for unique guitar after theft

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – A stolen handmade acoustic guitar has one local woman gently weeping. April Paine said her guitar, an elaborately inlaid instrument specially fashioned for Paine by her luthier son, Josh Paine, was stolen from the front porch of her Colorado Avenue home sometime during the early morning hours of June 26. The head of the guitar – the part that has the tuning knobs – has five inlaid flowers and gold knobs. The pickguard, she said, is made of abalone shell. “My son made it for me. It was a special gift,” Paine said. Paine said she received word from a local pawn broker that a tall, white female tried to sell the guitar, but she was turned down. Paine said she might be able to turn in a homeowner’s insurance claim and get some money for the guitar, which she estimated is worth $1,300 to $2,500, but that’s not what she’s after. “I don’t even want the money. I want the guitar my son made for me,” she said. Josh Paine made the guitar about two years ago, Paine said. It was the third instrument he built. “It’s incredible. It has a really huge sound,” she said. If anyone sees the guitar or has any information on its whereabouts, call Paine at 945-0350.Contact Greg Massé: 945-8515, ext. 511gmasse@postindependent.com
