Glenwood Springs firefighters early Thursday extinguished a fire and rescued a woman from the South Canyon home’s balcony, the Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to County Road 134 on the report of a structure fire with a trapped person, the Fire Department said in a news release.

Three residents of a home in South Canyon awoke to an exterior fire and house filled with smoke about 3 a.m. Thursday. The first crews at the house found an exterior fire that had extended into the eaves and roof.

Occupants of the home had extinguished much of the fire using garden hoses.

Fire crews began attacking the fire and immediately working to a female from a second-story balcony. The female was treated on scene and released.

The fire caused extensive damage to one side of the house, and its cause was under investigation.
