Woman wins $145,000 from Frank ‘The Strong Arm’ Azar
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (AP) ” A woman was awarded $145,000 in damages from attorney Frank “The Strong Arm” Azar after she claimed she was duped by his television commercials in which he promises to deliver big settlements from insurance companies.
The lawsuit was brought by 40-year-old Shawna Jimenez of Colorado Springs, who said she was injured in a car crash in 2004. Jimenez, who hired Azar after seeing one of his television commercials, claimed she was pressured take a settlement of $25,000.
El Paso County jurors acquitted Azar’s firm and one of his attorneys of theft and false advertising but found them guilty of negligence and misrepresentation. Azar said he will appeal and called Wednesday’s verdict “a big victory.”
Jimenez was seeking $500,000 from Azar.
Azar’s attorney, Marc Levy, said Jimenez willingly agreed to the settlement and continued using the firm after her case concluded. Levy said the outcome of her case was uncertain if it went to trial.
But Jimenez’ attorney, Patric LeHouillier, accused Azar’s law firm of taking quick settlements and not fighting for their clients. He said Azar’s firm, which includes offices in Aurora, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, only takes one out of 500 cases to trail.
