Wyoming man makes waves with pool drive
Friends of the Community Center report a successful first week in the LAP – Let’s All Pledge community fund-raising drive for the Glenwood Springs Aquatic Center. George B. McKinley, of Evanston, Wyo., has come forward with a leadership gift of $100,000.McKinley is a former chairman of the board for First National Banks of Glenwood Springs, Aspen and Grand Junction, now U.S. Bank branches.”Glenwood Springs has been very good to our family over the years and it was a wonderful place to raise my children,” said McKinley. “I also have grandchildren in the area who will enjoy the Glenwood Springs Community Center.”This gift offers great significance as the Friends volunteer group attempts to reach its goal of collecting additional pledges for the $3.2 million Aquatic Center, a lap and leisure pool planned for the Glenwood Springs Community Center.”I am sure many present and former residents will recognize the importance of this project to the area and will come forward with support,” McKinley added. Committee members report that $1.3 million of the estimated funds needed to build the new facility have been promised. The group is waiting to hear from three separate foundations for $500,000 in additional money.The pledged total includes $750,000 from the city of Glenwood Springs and $100,000 each from Alpine Bank and McKinley.WestStar Bank, the Hot Springs Lodge & Pool and Sunlight Mountain Resort are a few of the businesses that have come out early to show support for the fund-raising drive.
