X Games set for Aspen but not the photo shoot

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) ” A shortage of snow in the Aspen area is forcing a film crew to shoot a commercial for the Winter X Games at another ski area.

The games are scheduled in Aspen Jan. 24-27. Aspen Skiing Co., which owns four Aspen area resorts, began looking for alternate sites to shoot the Internet commercial about two weeks ago, company spokesman Jeff Hanle said.

The commercial was to be shot at the Buttermilk ski area. Filming was moved to Arapahoe Basin, which has more snow, said Angela Seaman, a spokeswoman for Model Team, the Aspen casting agency that lined up snow riders for the shot.

Hanle said the commercial will still work the X Games and Aspen.

“When people see it, where are they going to go?” he said.

The company’s Snowmass and Aspen Mountain resorts are scheduled to open Thanksgiving Day. Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands are scheduled to open Dec. 8.
