Submitted Photo"Penguins" by Maia Goel

Third-grade student Grace McSwain brings a desert scene to life in hot, vibrant colors. Maia Goel, second grade, has penguins dancing through a glittering winter walk.

Third-grader Madison Spence had an exotic bird cawing jungle expressions to a tiger below. And kindergarten student Erica Diemoz created artistry of children in a lively city scene.

These and other Glenwood Springs Elementary School students’ artwork are on display in Colorado Mountain College’s downtown gallery, 831 Grand Ave., through May 26. In celebration of the budding new artists, the public is invited to an opening reception from 5:30-7 p.m. today.

“I just think it’s great for the kids to show their artistic talent in public and get recognition,” said Lynn Cassidy, GSES art teacher, in a press statement. “They get really excited, and it builds their self-esteem in their talent.”

Along with the CMC gallery exhibit, thousands of pieces of students’ art are featured in the 17th Annual All Glenwood Springs Kids Fine Arts Celebration opening today in the Glenwood Springs High School gymnasium. The art show includes works from students at Sopris Elementary School, GSES, Glenwood Springs Middle School, GSHS and St. Stephen’s Catholic School.
