Please help make Christmas magical for a handful of our partner families.

An “Adopt a Family This Christmas” program is being offered by Habitat, which allows you and your family the opportunity to bring the peace, joy and love of the season to families in need. By sponsoring a family, you will be ensuring a bright Christmas morning for these children. Each family creates a wish list to be fulfilled by donors like you who buy and wrap presents and then present them to the family just in time for Christmas morning.

As the volunteer coordinator for Habitat in this community, a nonprofit organization established to help others with a hand up, I am excited to have found something that allows me to do something – not only putting families in homes – but helping to provide Christmas for those in need and helping to make a difference in the lives of local families.

Christmas is about giving and what better way to give than to adopt a family and show the true spirit of the season. Together, we can make this Christmas magical for everyone.

To sponsor a family, please contact me at 309-3088 or email director@habitatroaringfork.org.

Please consider stopping by our open house on Christmas Eve for a cup of hot chocolate at our current build site in Silt (1445 Em St.) from noon to 4 p.m., meet our families, talk to staff members and learn more about the volunteer opportunities and programs that Habitat has to offer right here in your community.

Together we can build community.

I wonder if Rupert Murdoch will be hanging out in Aspen this Christmas? I hope someone relays this letter to him. He was in Aspen last fall, just before going off to London and running into major trouble.

I’ve had the great fortune to spend a lot of time in Australia over the last 10 years, Rupert’s native country. I very rarely heard a good word on his behalf. Instead it was like, “I’m glad you guys have him and he’s out of here.” Today the Brits and Aussies are onto Rupert, only the Yanks haven’t gotten the message.

I, and many others, believe Mr. Murdoch and his henchmen – Rodger Ailes, O’Reilly, Hannity, along with Rush Limbaugh – have done more to dumb down America and turn the U.S. into a second class country than any other news media, especially when compared to Murdoch’s “socialist” Australia.

This is a country we should be on par with, instead of being far behind, largely due to Fox New’s B.S. and propaganda. Rupert is probably aware the average working Aussie has much better working conditions going for him/her than the average American worker thanks to their “socialized” working conditions. Murdoch and Fox haven’t done a whole lot for the U.S. except creating a lot of problems and getting us into unnecessary wars.

A few of us are native-born old-timers from the Elk mountains and Aspen area. Through the hard work of our parents and grandparents we were educated and able to travel and experience what’s going on in other countries. This is the consequence of the working class becoming educated. Sorry, Rupert, many of us are onto you and not very impressed, especially when comparing your native land to the decline in the U.S. Your influence upon the American worker and this country has been very dismal.
