Several things have happened at the end of 2007 that should concern this country, and in particular, the immediate area.

The first is that nothing has been done to secure our borders, the second is the situation with the documented workers that had to be sent home, and the third is the issue with the non-English speaking Santa at the Glenwood Mall.

As of today, the 700 miles of fence funded by Congress along the Mexican border is either nonexistent or constructed below the standards specified by Congress. The actual length of fence completed lies somewhere between a few hundred yards and seventy miles, depending on whom you believe. What has been documented is that the fence that has been completed is not two-layered, as specified, and is not much better than a pasture fence. Meanwhile, the steady stream of illegals continues to pour into this country unrestricted.

Another sign of the mess that has been created by not enforcing immigration laws is the sad story of the workers who came here legally and were sent home because the company didn’t need them when they got here. Why couldn’t they work for another company? Why not round up the same number of illegal aliens, give the workers with permits their jobs and send the illegals home on the buses provided? What message does this send to those waiting for work visas? The clear message is come here illegally and you are safe, come here the right way and be sent home.

The last issue is the Santa at the Glenwood Mall. I, too, witnessed what happened, and it is true the Santa spoke little or no English. There is no excuse for this. The mall should have provided an English-speaking Santa, and if possible, a bilingual Santa. We speak English in America, not Spanish.

Why would a people want to assimilate and learn our language, when certain companies bend over backwards to serve them and ignore the local citizens?

I will think twice before shopping there again.

Shades of Orwell’s 1984 Big Brother ” what the dickens are you folks up to on Capitol Hill? Are you really that set on giving away every right and liberty millions have fought and died for, for a measly piece of the power pie? Have you all really sold your souls for whatever the conspirators against the American people’s welfare have led you to believe you need to do to “protect us from terrorism,” or are you really on board?

I suppose only time will tell, but I am here today to tell you that the heads of state are indeed abusing their power for personal gain and political revenge as I, too, along with hundreds of thousands of other private and patriotic citizens are being subjected to on a daily basis, sometimes moment-by-moment, all as a result of the passage of the Patriot Act, and this one being presented to you now, which is like unto it, is definitely being abused, and it is likely this one will be, too.

Please, I beg of you, do not go down this path which is certain to lead to further tyranny by the despot in office at present. The man has no soul or conscience. Do not join him, and for God’s sake do not make the rest of us join you, either. We did not ask for it, nor have we given our consent. Stick by the Constitution, restore the system of checks and balances ” that is what they are there for ” to protect us all from the ravages of tyranny.

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It’s just a ____ piece of paper!” ” George W. Bush, U.S. President, on being told by an aide that provisions in his proposed changes to the FISA Act might be in violation of the U.S. Constitution. What a guy.
