Your letters

Addressed to the police:

I am a little girl 8 years old. I am writing you this letter to let you know how bad you make children feel, when you arrest their parents in front of them. I know how this feels because this happened to me. A policeman came to our house once and arrested my daddy. My daddy asked him please don’t do this in front of my kids. The policeman took my daddy out to the front porch and put him in handcuffs. Then he came into my house and looked me in the eyes, and said, “Don’t worry, sweetie, I’m taking your daddy to jail.” When he did this to me, it broke my heart and I cried all night. There was no reason for him to do this.

Now I hear that my cousin has been through the same thing. His daddy was arrested in front of him, too. I know he felt really, really sad. His daddy was arrested for missing a court date to renew his green card. This was an honest mistake. I feel there are worse people out there for police to deal with. My cousin’s daddy is a very nice man.

He works very hard, just like my daddy does. All they want to do is raise their family.

My cousin’s daddy is not a criminal. There are a lot of immigrants that come here and are drug dealers, law breakers and many more bad things.

I am fortunate that my family was born here. My cousin’s daddy is trying very hard to raise his family and become a United States person. I’ve been reading a lot about police kicking in doors where there are kids in the house. Most of the reasons the police have been doing this is for dumb reasons. I think the police need to think about the kids more. The police are doing dumb things, when they should be worried about the real criminals.

Thank you for your time.
