On Tuesday, March 30, the Post Independent printed an article by King Colbert, a columnist for The Washington Post. I have never read anything as biased, filled with hatred, filled with lies and distortions as Colbert’s column about the Tea Party.

Colbert writes “The angry faces at Tea Party rallies are eerily familiar. They resemble faces of protesters lining the streets at the University of Alabama in 1956 as Autherine Lucy bravely tried to walk to class.” Colbert goes on comparing the Tea Party participants to the white angry crowd that was there to protest the first black students to register and attend classes. His last quote reveals his true feelings. “The mobs of yesterday were on the wrong side of history. Tea Party supporters and their right-wing fellow travelers are on the wrong side now. It shows up in their faces”. The truth has escaped this man’s mind. Hatred has filled his thoughts and spilled over onto news print. I am a member of the Tea Party. Even though I was not at the Washington protest, I know that what Colbert writes is nothing but lies and distortions.

The true story may resemble the event Colbert recalls but the characters are reversed. We, the Tea Party members, have assumed the role of Autherine Lucy and our government has taken on the role of the Alabama protesters. We were there to protest the takeover of this country by Washington. This President has taken a leap towards socialism unprecedented in our history. Washington continues to ignore the people who elected them to office and has assumed the role of stepfather.

We were there to protest the path our government has taken. We were there to let Washington know that we will not take their disrespect for the Constitution and their disrespect for the people who put them there. We were there because we love this country and we believe the majority of Americans are behind us.

Racism has no place in the Tea Party organization and will not be tolerated if found.

About nine months ago our family had the most wonderful experience welcoming our fourth child into this world. My wife, Gretchen, and I decided that we would like to have our next child at home. What better environment to be comfortable in when you have to deal with a situation called labor. Therefore, we contacted a mid-wife that delivers babies exclusively in homes.

We were so thrilled to meet Jasmine Bissell with Crystal River Home Birth. She was just great and thorough throughout the entire process. Jasmine is very accommodating in regards to your ideas of the home birth process. You can tell her work is not just a job, but her passion. I was completely impressed with her attention to detail along with the way she cared for my precious wife every step of the way!

I highly recommend calling Jasime Bissell with Crystal River Home Birth if you are considering delivering your next baby at home!
