Bev Zanella (April 1, 1936 – October 1, 2016)

Beverly Jean Marie Zanella was born to Joe and Angelina Ryan on April 1, 1936 at the Hopkins Hospital which was located at 8th and Bennett in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She went to be with Jesus on October 1, 2016 and gave him a big hug. Bev was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Angelina Ryan and her second son Thomas (Tom) Michael Zanella. She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Zanella whom she married 60 years ago on June 2, 1956 and had five children, her four surviving children are Robert (Rob) Jay Zanella, Jean Marie Ewen, Steven Joseph Zanella and Christine (Trina) Jessen. She has eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Bev and her husband Bob were owner operators of the Buttercup Bakery in downtown Glenwood Springs from 1961 to 1982. After the bakery’s sale she worked at Alpine Bank serving her customers for 22 years, eventually retiring in 2008.

She remained active in her retirement years volunteering at St. Stephens Catholic Church and as a volunteer at Valley View Hospital where she was best known for her hugs.

Her services will be held on October 15, 2016 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1885 Blake Ave., Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A rosary will be said at 9:30 am with the Memorial Mass at 10 am. A reception will be held at the Rivers Restaurant at 2525 South Grand Ave. at Noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bev’s honor may be made to Catholic Charities, 1004 Grand Avenue, Glenwood Springs CO 81601 or St. Stephens School Scholarship Fund, 414 S. Hyland Park, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601.
