Blanche Elaine Holgate

Blanche Elaine Holgate passed away peacefully in Carbondale, Colorado, on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. She was 96 years old.

Blanche was born near Nettle Creek (near Carbondale) on January 31, 1919, to parents Mary Julia Panion and Edward Whitbeck. She was the great-granddaughter of John Mobely, one of the first white settlers of Marble, and founder of Clarence, Colorado. Blanche lived her life in Carbondale, spending winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Blanche married Robert Holgate in 1934. They raised four children: Claude Holgate (Allene), Kenny Holgate, Winona Hoffman and Jan Clark.

She loved to read, crochet, make quilts and spend time with her family.

Blanche is preceded in death by Robert Holgate and Claude Holgate. She is survived by three of her children, Kenny, Winona and Jan; 13 grandchildren, Ted Holgate, Terry Stacey, Jim Holgate Jackie Feigenbaum, Toni Holgate, Ivy Holgate Fife, Ken Holgate, Mike Hoffman, Greg Hoffman, Holly Gressett, Tracie Skoglund, Travis Clark and Jessica Clark; her 25 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Gathering Center in Carbondale.
