Georgia Bowlby

Georgia Bowlby passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 8, 2015. She had been loved by her husband, Leonard, for 66 years and is loved still.

The youngest of six children, Georgia was born to George and Barbara Urbanin Wild Horse, Colorado on September 4, 1928. After her mother’s death when she was 5, Georgia was raised by her brothers and sisters in both Wyoming and Colorado. She met her soon to be husband, Leonard, in 1947. He saw her as she walked into her eldest brother’s nightclub, on a Sunday afternoon north of Denver. They were married in February of 1949 and have been together ever since.

They have lived a life full of travels, fishing, family and creating a loving home wherever they found themselves. Together they owned Glenwood Liquors after moving to Glenwood Springs in 1961. Later, Georgia became one of the first hires for newly forming Colorado Mountain College, she was a Glenwood Springs Chamber Manager, and a Vice President at First National Bank.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard; son and daughter-in-law Dean and Sally Bowlby; grandchildren, Chase Bowlby, Andrew Bowlby, Kaylee (Matt) Bowlby-DeStefano,Kelley (Rob)Hemminger and Jonathan (Jenny) Hemminger; and beloved great-granddaughter, Aife DeStefano; nieces and nephews Vern Davis, Jim Urban (LaDonna), Dick Urban, Larry Urban, Dennis Urban, Barbara (Tom) Fletcher, Pat Smith, Lori (Dave)Bredemeier, Susie (Andy) Reeves, Scott Berger; great-nieces and nephews Jenny, Jolene, Julie, JuneKay Davis; Lori (Rob), Sherry, Robbie Davis; Dave, Jamie, Karen Brookes.

She is proceeded in death by George and Barbara Urban, Arthur and Martha Bowlby, Ray (Ann) Urban, Albert (Dorthy) Urban, Hubie(Ida) Urban, Marcella (Joe) Davis, Josephine(Alec Frick/Mike) McDermitt, Ruby (Leo) Berger, Robert Davis, Norma Brookes, Margret Davis, Wayne Davis, Jim Berger, Ron Urban.

A memorial mass will be said at St. Stephan’s Catholic Church in Glenwood Springs, Colorado on Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow memorial at church. A double burial will take place at a later date in Brighton, Colorado.
