Mary Elizabeth Borkenhagen

Mary would say “greet the morning air with a song,” so sing one for her. Her life was complete with a loving family and a community of friends touched by her striking blue eyes that reflected presence, truth, love and peace. She was truly a righteous mama. She came to us all like the morning sun, warming our souls and accepting of all of earth’s creatures as great as the elephant and as small as the raven. She taught us that there is no time to hate. Mary was grateful to be given the time to smell the freshness of her baby granddaughter and to show Madisyn the beauty of the peony. Our Mary, may the four winds blow you safely home.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband Scott Borkenhagen and their two children Elizabeth and Robert, also by her granddaughter Madisyn, another on the way, and their father Clifton Sartin; loving mother Rita Willmott, sisters Darlene Stevely and Cynthia Willmott; and nieces and nephews Melisa Maddux, Patrick Stevely and Robert Stevely. She is preceded in death by her father Robert Willmott, brother Robert Willmott Jr., and nephew Robert Willmott III.

Service to be held on Friday, March 20, at St. Stephen’s Church in Glenwood Springs at 2:30 p.m. With Celebration of Life to follow after at Glenwood Center for the Arts at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, there is a fund set up in Mary’s name at the Alpine Bank.
