Paul Gustaf Anderson

Mr. Paul Gustaf Anderson, aged 91 years, of Parachute CO, passed away in the early hours of June 10th, 2015 in the comfort of his home and in the presence of family. Predeceased by his wife Elinor Van Kleek (Heagey) Anderson (1925-1975) and son Eric Brian Anderson (1950-1989). He is survived by his longtime partner Geraldine “gg” Lederer Heyman of Aspen, CO; his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Youngs of Grand Rapids, MI; his children, David (Ellen) Anderson of Carbondale, CO, Jon (Lynda) Anderson of Scituate, MA; his daughter-in-law Barbara Watson of Lafayette, CO; his 9 grandchildren, Jenny (Wilhelm) Schultz of South Africa, Ian (Julie) Anderson of Japan, Greer (Brian) Maier of WA, Sloane (Andrew) Walbert of CO, Daniel (Vanessa Carter) Anderson of CA, Craig (Jamie DiMatteo) Anderson, Geoff (Annmarie) Anderson, Eric Anderson, and Emily Anderson of MA; and 6 great-grandchildren; Bryce Henry Maier, Elinor Anna Schultz, Islay Mae Walbert, Lena Ogden Maier and Aidan Friedrich Schultz. Paul also leaves devoted friends and watchful guardians, his two dogs, Lulu Belle and Radar.

Born to immigrants from Sweden, the late Sven Gustaf and Jennie Elevida (Johnson) Anderson on August 31st, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MI. Paul graduated from Union High School in 1941 and went on to earn a degree in engineering from the General Motors Institute. In 1944, he reported to midshipman school in Fort Schuyler, NY. Paul would serve as an Ensign in the United States Navy during WWII for the next two and a half years, including time on the U.S.S. ALSHAIN in the Pacific. He continued his service as a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve until 1952.

Paul married Elinor Van Kleek Heagey in 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska. His occupation as a fleet transportation specialist took him and his family all over the country; The Buick division, Flint, MI; American Coleman Company, Littleton, CO; Shell Oil, Houston, TX; Quality Bakers of America, N.Y.; Borden Company, Columbus, OH; and finally as the owner/operator of Aspen Pool & Spa, Aspen, CO until his retirement to Battlement Mesa, CO.

Paul enjoyed the outdoors and had a curiosity for history. He also enjoyed traveling, especially with his partner, gg. He was a car enthusiast and had accomplished carpentry skills, which he gained from his father’s experience as a furniture builder. Paul’s legacy will live on through his family and friends.
