A memorial service was held for Richard “Rich” Allen Longwell, 60, on October 3, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Church in Buena Vista, CO. Fifteen of his high school classmates attended to celebrated his life. Rich passed away unexpectedly September 26th, 2015, at his home in Buena Vista, CO.
He was born in Leadville at the old Saint Vincent Hospital March 19, 1955, to Earl and Darlene (Godat) Longwell. He attended Leadville schools through his senior year.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he went on to become a master carpenter. He worked in construction with his dad in Vail and later moved to Glenwood Springs where he lived for more than 20 years. Among his employers were Walters Construction and Rudd Construction companies. His carpenter skills can be seen in Glenwood and through the valley.
In his early years he enjoyed music, skiing, camping and hiking. He was a lifetime lover of music: Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen and Pink Floyd were among his favorites. He never outgrew watching vintage cartoons. Rich will be remembered for his quick dry wit and his willingness to lend a hand when needed.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Earl Longwell, grandparents Joe and Gertrude Longwell, grandmother Minnie (Ulin) Peterson, grandfather Jerry Godat and uncles Roy and Charles Longwell.
Rich is survived by his mother, Darlene Godat; sisters Becky Daughety and Marcia Mabey of Buena Vista; brother Gary Longwell of Kit Carson; uncles Jack Longwell (Nancy) of Colorado City, Larry (Barbara) Godat, Glenn (Ella) Godat of Arvada and Bill (Carol) Peterson of Conifer; aunt Geri (Leroy) Bates of Montrose; nieces Crissa (Patrick) Carr of Rio Hondo, TX, and Samantha (Kyle) Green; nephew Tim (Amanda) Mabey; great-nieces Shelly Green, Gracie Jane Green and Alissa Green; and great-nephews Edwin Mabey, Elijah Green and Addicus Carr.
Arrangements were made by Runyan Mortuary, Buena Vista.
