Robert J. Serson

Robert J. Serson, Jr. (Bob) peacefully passed away September 3rd at home in Glenwood Springs, CO, his family by his side. Bob was born to Edna Kline Serson and Robert J. Serson, Sr., January 25, 1941, in Chicago, IL. Bob was raised in Chicago and Palos Park, IL, with summers at the family cottage on Little Traverse Lake, MI. A 1957 graduate of Carl Sandburg High School, he then earned a degree in electrical engineering from University of Illinois. He married his wife, Lynne, in 1967. He worked at Serson Supply, an industrial supply company in Chicago for over 40 years alongside his father, uncles and cousins. He was a Lieutenant in the National Guard from 1964 to 1971.

A man of many interests, Bob loved classical music, the arts, sports and the outdoors. He began skiing on leather boots and wooden skis in his boyhood backyard. An extreme sports enthusiast before the term existed, Bob enjoyed hang gliding and soaring, and was an avid private pilot. Bob loved boating, sailing, waterskiing and kayaking. A wonderful parent, he was an active volunteer, a deacon and elder in the Palos Park Presbyterian Church, Cub Scout leader and soccer coach. Upon retirement, he and Lynne split years between summers in Michigan and winters in Colorado.

Bob’s love for the beaches in Michigan and the mountains in Colorado ran deep and lives on in his family. Throughout his life, his loyalty and gentle spirit, patience, sense of humor and love of adventure were dearly treasured and will be greatly missed. Bob is survived by his wife, Lynne, brother John, daughter Brooke Serson-Cernonok, (Doug), son Taylor Serson, (Cindy), and grandchildren Gabe, Hollis, and Florence. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on September 25th at 1:00 PM at St. Peters of the Valley in Basalt, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
