Robert Lewis “Bob” Hood (February 28, 1950 — March 7, 2017)
Robert Lewis “Bob” Hood, age 67, passed away March 7, 2017, at his home in Silt, Colorado. He was born February 28, 1950, in Paris, Illinois, to Barbara Jean Shoot and Lewis Henry Hood.
Known for exceptional athletic abilities, he excelled in track, baseball and football.
After attending elementary school in Ashmore, Illinois, he graduated from Charleston High School and went on to attend Eastern Illinois University, where he majored in Psychology. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity.
In 1971 he came to Denver and later moved to Glenwood Springs where he became part of the revolving community of individuals who lived in the White House on Grand Avenue. He worked construction with his father, was a bartender at the Red Garter Room in the Hotel Colorado and Hotel Denver. He worked as a groundskeeper at Westbank Golf Course. He then worked for Lester Bickel at Bickel Construction. In 1977 he married Kathleen Dolan and they had 2 children, Jena and Amy. For the last 30 years his time was devoted to the City of Glenwood Springs S.W.A.T. Department.
Bob’s specialty was concrete and his expertise is evident when you look at the these structures — the Two Rivers boat dock, where he surreptitiously scratched his daughters initials, the sidewalk that goes around Judge Holloway’s tree, the stage at Two Rivers Park and the Recycling Center at South Canyon — to mention only a few.
Bob was an accomplished pool player and loved to pitch horse shoes. Golf, hunting, and horses were an integral part of his life. Bob could always be found at his “spot”…with Lisa at his home south of Silt.
Bob was known for his work ethic, honesty, and his love of friends and family. He will truly be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his father Lewis and wife Kathleen.
Survivors include his mother Barbara Cline – Charleston, Illinois; longtime companion Lisa Reichert – south of Silt; daughters – Jena (Dale) Kroschel, McArthur, California, and Amy (Matt) Obert, Parker, Colorado; brothers – Ron (Carol) Hood, Wood River, Illinois, Joe (Jennifer) Hood, Jesse Hood; their mother Charlotte Hood, Glenwood Springs, Colorado. There are many other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles surviving.
