Virginia Joyce Widell

Virginia Joyce Widell, 82, went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord on December 31, 2015. She was born December 16, 1933, on a farm at Tera, Iowa, to Fred and Florence (Bowers) Durschmidt. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1951.

“Ginny” married the love of her life, Maurice Eugene Widell, on July 15, 1951. In November 1951 they moved to Alexandra Air Force Base, Louisiana, spending two years there. Then they moved to Eagan, Minnesota. They later retired in Parachute, Colorado, for 28 years. Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her parents; and three sisters: Mae Andrews, Betty Chapman and Lois Voltner. Ginny is survived by her son, Steven Allen Widell (Carol); granddaughter, Amy Fortin; grandson, Daniel Widell (Fiona); and her beloved six great-grandchildren: Thyme, Clayton, Rosemary, Amber, Kya and Brody and sister Delores Lee.

Ginny loved family gatherings, many friends, walking, knitting, crocheting, reading and volunteering at her church. She also volunteered at the Parachute Senior Center, Share Colorado Program, Parachute Rest Stop Cabin and Mesa Vista Assisted Living. She was a member of Grace Bible Center. A private family burial will be at Battlement Mesa cemetery beside her beloved husband, Maurice. She has requested no church service or memorial. Donations can be made in Ginny’s name to the Grace Bible Church, Parachute, Colorado.
