A Memorial for Josh

Dear Editor:

Congratulations to the young adults who graduated in 2003. Our family wishes the very best for your future endeavors.

Our son Josh Johns would have graduated with all of you this year. I appreciate the help that the Rifle teachers, staff and students gave Josh. I would like to thank all of Josh Johns’ friends and family for being a special part of Josh’s life. You were important.

This particular year has been a very hard one for our family. The fact that Josh did not get to finish high school has been one of the hardest parts of losing him.

I believe that Josh would have graduated as promised. We had an appointment at CMC on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001. By 1 a.m. that day Josh had tragically lost his life in a car accident. Josh was adamant about using seat belts. As I recall, the facts were that he gave up his seat belt to a girl in the front seat. I believe that this, perhaps, was the last good deed that God asked of Josh before he took him “home.”

We have ordered Josh’s memorial stone and are asking for donations to the Josh Johns Memorial Fund, which can be made at Wells Fargo Bank in Rifle or sent to 120 Whitewater Ave., Rifle CO 81650. We also have jars for donations at Base Camp Cafe, Gofer Foods and the Texan Bar in Rifle.

Thank you,

Peggy McCune
