Activity Center holding Valentine dance

A Valentines Day Dance will be held from 7-10 p.m. tonight, Feb. 14, at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. Music will be provided by the Walt Smith Trio. There will be a cash bar, door prizes, and decadent desserts. The cost is $10 per person. For more information, call the activity center at 285-9480.You have probably noticed that the library has been closed for a few days (Feb. 11-15) for inventory. It will reopen Saturday, Feb. 16, for normal hours, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you need to return a book before Saturday, just drop it off in the drive-up drop box. Just a reminder that the library will be closed Monday, Feb. 18, in observance of Presidents Day. The library has a special display for February Terrific Twosomes! They have matched up well-known best-selling authors with some lesser known authors and have created a series of bookmarks. For example, one bookmark explains, If you like David Baldacci, youll love William Bernhardt, Stephen Cannell, Joseph Finder, Vince Flynn, John Grishman, James Grippando, Brad Meltzer, Kyle Mills. Thereby giving us more direction and options to choose.If you have not registered for the 50 Challenge, do so now. Go to http://www.garfieldlibraries.org then under News & Events, click on Upcoming Events, on this page scroll down to the second link, which is titled Parachute 50 Book Challenge. Click on 50 Book Challenge, which brings up the Welcome page, on the left click on Register. Complete the registration information and click submit. You are registered.The Friends of the Parachute Library will hold its monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. Paul Limbic will present The Sweet Business of Bees. Paul will be providing information on his 2,500 hives and will have displays of hives and beekeeping equipment, explaining the life of a beekeepers year. Since Paul is a native and has been involved in beekeeping all his life, this should be a worthwhile presentation. He is also offering free samples. The Friends will be meeting in February, March and April at the activity center during the remodeling of the Parachute Town Hall. Everyone is welcome at all the programs. For more information on the Friends of the Library, call 285-9870. The United Methodist Church will be hosting a beef brisket dinner on from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Grand Valley Methodist Church. The menu is beef brisket, scalloped potatoes, green beans, Jell-O salad, rolls and butter, beverages, and UMWs famous pies.
