Letter: Check Cheney’s record
Letters in the Daily News and the Post Independent in support of Jeff Cheney raise some interesting memories. The first was from Martin Beeson, former DA and current missionary in China. The second was from the brother of murder victim Sabrina Bebb-Jones.
Beeson and Cheney filed the murder charges in the Bebb-Jones case. They were out of office before it came to trial, and Sherry Caloia handled the case. It has been forgotten that Jeff and Martin, in their zeal to prosecute, decided to travel to London at taxpayers’ expense. Why? Not to investigate — there were three sheriff’s investigators already there. Not to handle the extradition, because international extraditions are handled by the U.S. State Department and Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service. No, they went as spectators, and their trip would have gone unnoticed except that a volcano in Iceland erupted and they were stuck in England for 12 days, costing $7,050. (See the Aspen Daily News, May 6, 2010).
Mr. Beeson is fulsome in his praise for his friend. (“He will do so selflessly”; “He is not in this race for himself.” “He is in it for you.”) One has to wonder given their record. Mr. Cheney has not been engaged in his wills and estate practice for the last year and apparently is not working. Sherry Caloia has claimed that he just “wants a government job.”
I submit that this district does not need a return to Beeson-Cheney.
