It’s time again for the Touch-a-Truck Family Day at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2. According to my grandchildren, this is truly the best event of the year. This year promises to be every bit as good as years past. The day will include the Grand Valley Fire Department, Parachute Police Department, Garfield County Sheriff’s Department, KJCT News 8, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol, monster trucks, Garfield County Search and Rescue, armored car, construction trucks, Hummer, KSUN Radio, race car, mud truck, National Guard helicopter, climbing wall, Spiderman Bump-n-Jump and much more. Concessions will be available for purchase. Don’t miss this event!

It’s time to register your kids for summer swim lessons at the activity center. It is of vital importance for all kids to learn to swim and follow safety rules around water. Take advantage of this opportunity for your child’s sake. Register now at the front desk of the activity center, or call 285-9480 for more information.

There is still an opportunity to swim for the health of it for adults. This is an excellent low impact, high aerobic and stress relieving workout, and instruction is for all swimming levels. It’s called the Swimming Fitness Workout Group at the activity center and they meet every Tuesday and Thursday. The individual warm-up begins at 7:30 a.m. and the coached workout begins at 7:45 a.m. and continues to 8:45 a.m. Barbara Wineka is the instructor. You can purchase a monthly pass to the workout for $50, or $9 per workout. Just check with the front desk at the activity center.

This Saturday is graduation day for the 2007 seniors at Grand Valley High School. This has been a tremendous year for all the students at GVHS, and I have enjoyed being a part of it. Watch for the bubbles!

There will be a Flag Raising Ceremony to honor veterans at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at the Battlement Mesa Golf Club Fairway on Hole #11.
