All you ever wanted to know about books, authors and more
The new Novelist database, easily accessed online through garfieldlibraries.org, is truly a wonder to behold. For those of us who enjoy having information at our fingertips, this fits the bill. Novelist has 155,000 fiction titles for readers of all ages. There are so many wonderful series for adults and children alike. Have you ever started reading one and had no idea which book comes next? With a click or two in the advanced search engine, the series can be located. From there, you will be able to see the order in which they were written, as well as the order of their popularity. The ability to print this list makes future searching, for the avid reader of a series, less of a mystery and more of a joy. Not sure what you’re looking for? Click on “Recommended Reads.” You can then browse through hundreds of titles carefully selected by librarians and organized by reading level as well as genre or topic. If you have a much-coveted favorite author but you’ve read everything he or she has written over the last few vacations and wintry nights, click on “Read a Likes.” This will give you a list of authors and books that are similar. You’ll run out of wintry nights and days on the beach before you run out of material to read. And finally, if you’re looking for a particular genre, this is an invaluable tool for people who have a singular interest. Be it science fiction, fantasy, westerns, historical fictions or mystery. Clicking on “Genre Outlines” can help you find titles and authors that you may have overlooked in the past. So, whatever your interest, or whoever your favorite author, finding it has never been easier. Novelist is just a click away. If you need assistance, contact your local librarian.
