Ride the Rockies is coming to town this weekend.

Then it will depart on Sunday and return on Friday, June 19.

We will be doing some reporting from the route, and we’re looking for local riders to catch up with along the way.

We want to feature some of the riders as they pedal their way through the Rocky Mountains and get their comments on what it’s like.

If you’re going to be riding the tour and want to possibly be part of our coverage, drop me a line at and include your cell phone so we can give you a call from the road.

I was sorry to see that Denise Greene resigned her volleyball coaching position at Coal Ridge High School. She’s been a very successful coach over the last decade. First, helping Glenwood Springs establish its solid foundation as an assistant coach with the Demons, then with Coal Ridge where she took a brand new program and turned the Titans into a league power. The Titans went 38-11 the past two seasons and added a 3A Western Slope League championship to the school’s trophy case.

Good luck in the future to Denise and her family.

Also a quick shoutout to wrestling coach Rob Grumley who also recently departed Coal Ridge. Like Greene he took a new program and made it successful very quickly. He, too, will be missed at Coal Ridge.

Congratulations to this year’s Grand Valley Days Grand Marshalls David and Rose Craig.

David graduated from Grand Valley High School in 1966. Rose was born and raised in Rifle, graduating from Rifle High School in 1971. David and Rose met in Rifle when he returned from the Army and were married on July 10, 1971, in Rifle and resided in Parachute. The couple have three children – Doug, Marcia and Sarah – all born and raised in Parachute.

Grand Valley Days is July 25.

The Daily Bread in downtown Glenwood Springs is going to be open seven days a week starting Monday, June 15. The popular eatery also recently received their liquor license. Good food and friendly folks.

Pizza and motorcycles – seems like a pretty good combination. The Monday Night Motorcycle Nights at Russo’s Pizza is revving up for the summer. It brings together a diverse group of motorcycle riders from all over the area to talk motorcycles, share stories and have fun in a rowdy-free environment.

Check it out.

Motorcycles and CARE – another great combination. Aspen Valley Harley Davidson will have its grand opening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, with all proceeds from the event benefiting CARE.

Call 928-7493 for more info.

Should be a fun event and for a great cause.

Final thought: Welcome to Colorado – the new Seattle. Rain, rain, rain …
