Brittany Zelaya brightens up RHS
Meet Brittany Zelaya, a senior at Rifle High School, and the February RHS Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Wendy and Tony Lassissolo, and has two siblings: sister, Colie, 9, and brother Cam, 4. She loves to eat her mom’s homemade lasagna, her favorite song is “Mercedes Benz” by Janis Joplin and her favorite childhood toy is “Littlest Pet Shop” toys.Brittany is the kind of person who brings a bit of sunshine to Rifle High School.”I love being happy,” she said. “That is my biggest passion in life.”She also spends part of her time bringing happiness into the lives of others in the community. She has volunteered her time at soup kitchens, RHS’ Breaking Down the Walls, and donating clothing to the homeless. She is involved with the RHS Destination Imagination team, the Speech team (she received fourth place at the State meet) and theater. If Brittany looks familiar to you, it might be due to her active role in the RHS theater program. Her productions include a nun in “Sound of Music” her sophomore year and a fairy in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” last year. Her favorite RHS moment was playing Maria in “Lend Me a Tenor” last year.”Being in the play `Lend Me a Tenor’ really taught me a lot about myself and others,” she said. Her favorite celebrity is Kevin Spacey because “he really takes pride in his acting and knows how to do it and when to do it.”If RHS had a snow day… “I’d probably sleep in, then go sledding and then watch `Dumb and Dumber’ a few times.”RHS has not had a snow day since the 1980s, and while she is in school, her favorite subject is Introduction to Western Philosophy with David Kosht.Brittany’s sense of adventure and hunger for knowledge are evident in her plans for when she finishes high school.”(I want to) explore different aspects of life – visit Europe, and perhaps someday go to college,” she said.Brittany’s shout out: “I would like to tell every one of my family members and friends that they are a great joy to have in my life – even though they stink.”-There’s a lot of action this week for Bears fans!
