Dear Readers,

We are blessed to live in a valley with clean rivers that grow wonderful trout. The fishing is so good here that the Colorado Division of Wildlife has designated several stretches of the Roaring Fork and Fryingpan rivers as gold medal trout streams.

And there’s good angling to be had on the Colorado as well.

Today, we are pleased to introduce a weekly fishing report, written by a local angler who knows our rivers well.

Colin Taylor of Glenwood Springs is a fly fishing guide who works with Alpine Angling and Roaring Fork Outfitters, and a former national fishing representative for the Orvis company.

Taylor started working as a fly fishing guide while in college at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., and he has traveled to Europe, Canada and the Caribbean to guide fly fishing adventures.

He moved here last year, and what he likes best about living here are the many different fishing spots.

Every Friday, he’ll share the latest conditions on the Fryingpan, Roaring Fork, Crystal and Colorado rivers. The report lists the hatches on for each stretch of the river, a recommended list of flies, and Taylor’s hints for more satisfying angling.

The Valley Fishing Report appears on page 39 today, and will run in the For Your Information calendar on the inside back cover of the Friday paper, right next to the weather report.

The movie and music listings, which the report replaces, can still be found on page B2 of the Options section.
