September is National Library Card Sign-up Month
Garfield County Libraries
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, and it’s the perfect time to realize that a library card is the smartest card you can own. With a library card from the Garfield County Libraries, you can access a wealth of materials — books, eBooks, CDs, DVDs, magazines and more — as well as access the Internet and use a computer for free.
When it comes to achieving academic success, a library card provides students with free access to a world of both print and electronic resources. Students can use powerful databases, prepare for tests (including the SAT and ACT), attend events, or participate in clubs and other activities that provide an added value to the educational experience. It’s easy to see why 84 percent of Americans agree that the public library is important to education.
We know families have invested a lot of money on school supplies this year, and we’d like to offer one of the most important supplies for free — a library card. During the month of September, the Garfield County Libraries will get library card applications into the hands of all incoming kindergartners and new students throughout Garfield County. Be on the lookout for your child’s application in the papers sent home from school. You can also visit your local library or go to our website, http://www.gcpld.org, to get a card.
The Garfield County Libraries are also offering free replacement library cards throughout the month of September. If you’ve lost your card — or are using it so much it’s wearing out — you can get a new one at no cost. From zombies to superheroes to adventurers, we have an array of library card designs from which to choose. Come in and pick the one that speaks to you.
So, get a library card with us and open your door to a world of possibilities!
