Were they lying then or are they lying now?

Many years ago we were involved in a legal action in Salt Lake City.

Our attorney asked a question of our opposition.

After hearing his reply, our attorney got the record of the pretrial deposition, which revealed that the man had given a different answer to the same question.

Our attorney then asked, “Were you lying then or are you lying now?”

As this new unconstitutional medical plan is imposed on us by the feds, that former experience comes flashing back.

“You can keep your plan” or “You can keep your doctor” or “You will save a lot of money” and many more promises don’t seem to be playing out.

Now I’m beyond the original question, “Were you lying then or are you lying now?”

I’m beginning to feel as though every statement by the administration is a lie.

Now we have this spying issue and other governments are responding with anger.

Snowden is beginning to look like a hero.

I believe that truth should be a foundational requirement of anyone in a position of leadership.

One lie or deception at any level, public or private, should absolutely require their replacement.

For instance, if a Senator is capable of lying to his wife to cover up his cheating, then he cannot be trusted at any level.

If a Congressman covers up illegal expenditures and influence money, can he be trusted with the trillions of our tax dollars?

I cannot find a time ever in history that the government has been involved in so many deceptions from drones to Benghazi.

The unconstitutional Federal Reserve, which is neither federal nor reserve, has manipulated our finances where gasoline has gone from 23 cents per gallon to around $4 just in my short life.

The gasoline isn’t any different, but our money is worth less, and a large portion of the price is going to our enemies.

By the way, diesel was 11 cents back then; less than half the price of gasoline.

From another direction, consider Social Security.

The way it is being handled it is just an interest free loan to the federal government.

When you get some back, if you live long enough, they charge you income tax.

Now it is being proposed to impose a bank transaction tax on your money when it is deposited and when you withdraw it.

An elected official was purportedly addressing Congress and said, “Gentlemen let me tax your memory.”

A colleague was reportedly heard to say, “Dang, why didn’t I think of that?”

That used to be a joke.

Justice Roberts justified the injustice of Obamacare by calling it a tax. I guess you could say that it is really taxing.

A partial truth is a lie. Misrepresentation is deceit and dishonesty.

What happened to the concept of “transparency?”

Were they lying then or are they lying now?

Foundational to relationships is trust beginning with the family and spreading through all of life.

How many times have you heard, “Now don’t you lie to your mommy?”

Then comes cheating on tests, lying to your boss, embezzlement, theft, sexual abuse and sometimes even murder.

All wrong and evil has its foundation in lying.

I have never been so apprehensive concerning our nations’ future.

I’m totally stunned that so many are deceived.

Then I remember the scientifically brilliant and theologically advanced Germans that got conned by Hitler.

I guess it could happen here.

Isaiah 59:14-15 says, “Justice is turned back and righteousness stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter. Truth is lacking and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.”(RSV)

How critical is truth?

Commit yourself to the pursuit of truth. The consequences are eternal.

“Out On A Limb” appears on the first Tuesday of the month. Ross L. Talbott lives in New Castle, where he is a business owner.
