The Post Independent is again sending out a call to all photographers. Its time for the Day in the Life of Garfield County. The shoot day for Day in the Life is Saturday, Sept. 9, with the deadline to get photos to the Post Independent being Thursday, Sept. 14. the section will publish Thursday, Sept. 28. All photos must be taken in Garfield County and must be shot on Saturday, Sept. 9. Name of photographer, where and the time the photo was taken are required. Photos can be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Mail or drop off at 2014 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601. Day in the Life is not a contest, its just an opportunity to have fun taking photos and possibly seeing them in print.
Stop by Aspen Valley Harley-Davidson at 2922 S. Glen Ave., Glenwood Springs, on Saturday, Sept. 9, for the monthly Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) barbecue. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., members of the local H.O.G. chapter will be grilling HOG dogs and burgers in the parking lot. Enjoy a beautiful ride with incredible views of the fall foliage on Saturday, Sept. 16, as motorcyclists get together for a Poker Run on the Grand Mesa Loop, which is about a five-hour ride. All proceeds from both events will be used to help Brenda Caywood with medical bills incurred from her fight against breast cancer. Donations can be accepted at Aspen Valley Harley-Davidson or deposited directly into the Brenda Caywood Account at any Vectra Bank.The poker run will begin at Aspen Valley Harley-Davidson. Participants can start the ride anytime from 8-9:45 a.m. Theres a preregistration sheet and pledge packet for the ride at Aspen Valley Harley-Davidson, along with a waiver, map, and all the details. The sixth annual Roaring Fork River Cleanup will start at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 9, with registration sites in Aspen at Jaffee Park in Woody Creek Canyon; Basalt at Lions Park next to the Library; Carbondale, in front of the Days Inn; and in Glenwood Springs at Two Rivers Park.Volunteers will be sent out in teams with trash bags to clean up along the river. Volunteers will not be encouraged to get in the river unless they are seasoned waders and come equipped for wading in the river. Some teams will clean up more than one area on the river. Please dress appropriately for a morning outside. This is a family event, and we recognize our youngest helpers for their efforts. Please dont forget to bring gloves, raincoat, water, bug repellent and sunscreen. At 11:30 a.m. everyone should be leaving their cleanup sites and making their way to Arbaney Park for our Volunteer Appreciation barbecue. Lunch will be served at Noon followed by the Best of Trash Awards.
Beginning Scuba class to be held Sept. 9 and 10. Registration and class will be held at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. Please register before Sept. 8. This is a PADI certification. Call Dars Divers for more information, (970) 984-2820.
Alpine Legal Services presents the Do it Yourself Divorce Class at 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs. Those who attend will be provided with all of the necessary documentation required to complete the divorce process along with all of the necessary information about how to manage the case start to finish. A small donation is requested for this service, but no one will be denied services for lack of ability to pay.This clinic is supported by grants from Aspen Valley Community Foundation. The Garfield County Library Board has two board member positions open one regular member and one alternate. The terms are for three years.
