The Day in the Life publication, which was scheduled to be distributed Sept. 28, has been moved, and will now be published and inserted in the Post Independent on Thursday, Oct. 12.The section is full of photographs taken on Sept. 9, capturing the day in the life of Garfield County.

Starting Friday, Sept. 29, the public will have an opportunity to purchase nuts from Girls Scouts across the Western Slope. Girl Scouts of Chipeta Council will host their annual Fall Nut Sale as a fundraiser to support activities and Girl Scout program development. Girls will be taking initial orders of nine varieties of nuts from Sept. 29 through Oct. 4. Products ordered now will be delivered in November.

The Post Independent will be switching to a new phone system on Saturday, Sept. 30. The 945-8515 number will still be the number to reach the PI, but the phone extensions will change. Also, all employees will have direct dial numbers where callers can call employees directly and bypass the automated system. Look for advertisements with a complete list of extensions and direct dial numbers.



Donations are now being accepted for Carbondale Rotarys annual community yard sale. Please call Sid (319-6774), Kenny (618-7467) or Bill (963-7391) for arrangements. Carbondale Rotary is not able to accept ski equipment, computer equipment, clothing (other than coats in good condition) or large appliances.The yard sale will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29; from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 at the vacant storefront next to the paint store in the Sopris Shopping Center (Highway 133 and Colorado Avenue).Proceeds will benefit the Rotary Club of Carbondale.

The Eagles Lodge is offering a steak fajitas, rice and refried dinner from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 29, at 312 Seventh Street, Glenwood Springs.Public welcome. Karaoke to follow for members and guests.

Developmental skateboard lessons for beginners through advanced ages 5 and up will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 14, and are offered by the Carbondale Recreation Department. Call Woodsie at 704-4116 for registration and details.

Students will be introduced to the journalistic skills of reporting and interviewing and create feature segments and film some community events. This class will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesdays, Oct. 9-25. Call 704-4116 for details.

The Rifle Fire Protection District will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. The location is 1850 Railroad Ave. in Rifle. Rides on fire trucks, kids games, training demonstrations and hot dogs and drinks will be available.

John Gorman, candidate for Garfield County assessor, will be at The Village Smithy restaurant from 7-9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, to meet county citizens.
