The coolest party in town for all ages includes a 50s costume contest, a hula hoop contest, ice bowling, limbo and a dance contest. Dont forget your poodle skirts and bobby socks. Hot chocolate and other goodies will be devoured. The party will be held from 6-7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center Ice Rink. For more information, call 384-6301.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park will extend its hours for the holidays. The park, including tramway, cave tours, restaurant, and thrill rides, will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Sunday, Jan. 7.

Literacy Outreach is looking for volunteers to tutor people who are eager to improve their reading, writing and math or English speaking skills. Volunteers need at least two hours of time a week to work one-on-one with an adult, the ability to read and speak English, and a desire to help someone who wants to learn.Volunteer information sessions will be held in Glenwood Springs on Jan. 8, in Carbondale on Jan. 11, and Rifle on Jan. 16. All sessions will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the local library. These informal and brief presentations will provide details about Literacy Outreachs volunteer tutoring program. A free Homebuyer Educational Workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the St. Mary of the Crown Church, 395 White Hill Road in Carbondale. The Carbondale Clay Center announces the CCC Gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, for its annual Holiday Show and Sale. The Clay Center Gallery features beautiful, handmade pottery and gifts to suit every budget. Call 963-2529 for more information.

Red Bull Illume Image Quest 2006, the first-ever international action and sports adventure photography competition, will celebrate the unique explorations of 45 skilled photographers at the base of Aspen Mountain Jan. 24 through Feb. 4, 2007. This dramatic exhibit will unveil the top 50 images selected from over 2,000 emerging artists, honor photographers for their dramatic mastery of the still image, and kick-off a worldwide tour of images. David Clifford from Carbondale was selected as one of the finalists in the Close-Up category. At the exhibit, a panel of image experts and esteemed photo editors from around the world will select ten category winners as well as Image of the Year winner, who will be commissioned for the photo shoot of a lifetime with a Red Bull Athlete of choice.

A mid-winter bouldering competition sanctioned by the American Bouldering Series and USA Climbing will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at the Glenwood Springs Community Center Climbing Wall. The competition will include a series of 30 different bouldering problems challenging novice to expert climbers, and lots of prizes.Divisions will include male and female ultra junior (7-11), junior (12-19), and open (20 and up).For more information, call the GWS Community Center at 384-6301.
